RIP Stewart Lee Udall

by

Secretary of the Interior from January 21, 1961 to January 20, 1969

There were giants once. Will there ever be a legacy to match his?

The Clean Air Act

The Wilderness Act

The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act

Canyonlands National Park

Redwoods National Park

North Cascades National Park

56 new National Wildlife Refuges

and so much more

Obama and Salazar please take note. It would be appropriate to honor this man, even more appropriate to learn from him.

Over the long haul of life on this planet, it is the ecologists, and not the bookkeepers of business, who are the ultimate accountants.

Some good news for our male readers:

Walnuts slow prostate tumors in mice

    As if that weren’t enough:

Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that eating walnuts — rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, antioxidants and other plant chemicals — decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease. These findings prompted the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in 2004 to approve, for the first time, a qualified health claim for reducing heart disease risk for a whole food.

Satisfying to me as one who loves all things walnut, as well as one who watched my father die of prostate cancer.

The four enormous old walnut trees out back were the nicest feature of my childhood home. American walnuts; it took a little effort and ingenuity to get the meat out. We eventually resorted to cleaning off a cemented area and running over them with the heaviest roundest things we could manage.

We actually hoarded big gunny sacks of them. Some to eat, some for gifts, and many for the vicious walnut fights we organized. It is a miracle any of us have any eyes left. Many injuries were sustained and boasted over in those valiant battles.

Oh this country is too nutty! For the past few months the msm has been talking about Obama’s crippled presidency, and now they are talking about the victory of passing the biggest piece of social legislation in 40 years.

What was the turnaround? Obama started acting like the preacher he desires to be. Reroll the campaign stuff.

It must be theater. Americans demand theater.

    As the world turns.

Watching American idiocy on cspan. The baggers are so vile, I wish the bill passes even if it mostly sucks.

Breaking–Obama caves to anti-abortion Stupak to get his vote.

      Agreed.

Whoever that is presiding – oh, it’s Jesse Jr. – sure got the short end of the stick. Any other day it’s all quorum calls and naps; all hell is breaking out on his watch.

Michele Bachmann and her Intergalactic Orchestra are sure pretty in pink today.

Although I don’t like the bill at all, I do take some pleasure in hearing the teabaggers wail and gnash their teeth.

However that will probably soon be outweighed by the disgust I will feel as Pelosi starts telling us all through her botox induced rictus how this ridiculous bill is greater than anything FDR ever imagined.

    Amen!

May be in need of some of that there health care today. Twisted my shoulder around somehow digging, then slept on it all sideways.

The whole left side is falling apart, really.
