Anderson Cooper attempts to deconstruct Palin’s astonishing, Orwellian assertion that Quitting Is Leadership in a discussion with Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton, but gets hopelessly tangled up in sports analogies.
Basketball? More like a round of Twister after a few double shots.
While her argument is laughable, Stapleton’s word salad is a lot closer to standard English than Palin’s, which is simply incomprehensible, thanks largely to the unending cascade of ellipses and interjections. But in this clip she does slip in the tic that annoys me the most:
The world is literally her oyster.
Oh? When she literally eats it, does she literally add a little tabasco? This use of the word literally makes my head explode. Figuratively.
In case you missed it, here’s the official text of Palin’s statement yesterday, complete with exclamation points, random capitalization, and dead fish. Nothing compared to the live performance with its Greek chorus of waterfowl.
